The Pillowman
Oh my God, Dan and I saw the most amazing play this afternoon. It’s called The Pillowman, and it’s about a writer living under a totalitarian regime who becomes suspect. I can’t give away any more of the story than that, but I swear to God. It is the single most moving, heart-wrenching, horrifying, achingly beautiful pieces of art I have ever seen. If you ever hear of it, go see it, spend all your money on the tickets, starve yourself for a week if you have to. Nothing else matters. As the play drew to a close, I was left sitting sobbing uncontrollably in the front row while the lights came on and everyone milled about departing for their daily lives. It took me quite a few long moments before I could compose myself. Now that’s my kind of art.
Good Stuff
Tonight Dan and I went to dinner at my favorite restaurant, Bleu, and then went and saw Capote, finally. Excellent movie. Awesome acting. It’s left me feeling all heavy and serious, and I love that. Unfortunately, I have nothing to write about that wouldn’t sound affected.
Uh-Oh…
I seem to have found a new addiction. Gaia Online, an interactive role-playing community. It has really cool artwork and animation effects, and has potentially really cool customizable avatars. If you want to dress them up, you have to earn gold pieces to buy items. And you earn Gold Pieces just by wandering around. It’s pretty fun. It’s a PG-13 site, so swearing isn’t frowned upon unless it’s in excess, and the art you can submit can be PG13 as well. It’s pretty sweet. Right now I’m spending a lot of time picking up trash, catching bugs, and digging up flowers. I don’t know if I’ll ever earn any money that way, but we’ll see. ^_^
