Finals are upon me.
The last month of classes are always crazy-busy, but this quarter has been saner than most. I’m still working on art daily (including weekends) but it doesn’t feel like a drag. Getting up in the morning at six a.m. does, but the actual work itself is fulfilling and fun.
I love the final projects for my ceramics class. We’re to pick a person to have a meal with…famous or not, living or dead, fictional or real, and then design a set of dishes to be used. Of course, I chose David Bowie. I’m making a small Asian-ish set with pieces based on various songs of his. Primarily, “A New Career in a New Town” from Low, “Some Are,” which was a bonus track on my Sound and Vision version of Low, “Moss Garden” from Heroes, and “I’m Deranged” (specifically the line “and the rain sets in”) from Outside. I’m so excited. I can’t wait to see how they turn out. I hope they turn out. The act of creating something as a tribute to him, one of the most inspiring people to me, has made this project one of the most deeply satisfying, rewarding, and peaceful things I’ve ever done! : )
In my art class, our final project is in-class, and it’s basically a six hour drawing. I’m really taking my time with it and not hurrying and trying to make it my best. The model is female, so that helps.
I’m really not sure what to do for my photography class. I’m meeting with the teacher tomorrow to talk to her about my “plans.” I have an idea to do a series based on one color. I would like to do pink, of course. I have lots of pink photos from my birthday party. LOL
Oh yeah, I’m 33 now! I just had a birthday weekend! Dan and I had dinner at Lampreia Friday night, and it was awesome. I had a couple of foodgasms. LOL. I discovered that pretty much anything with truffles in it (mushroom truffles, that is) does it for me every time. One of the appetizers was a duck egg poached? in black truffle puree and covered in melted provolone. I went to heaven right there. And the cheese course before dessert was served with a white truffle honey…OHMIGAWD I died again. Everything else was delicious as well. Dan commented that it was everything the Herbfarm was trying to be, and less expensive to boot. I have to agree. Of course, it’s in the middle of downtown instead of in the middle of the country, but that just made it more convenient to get to.
I had a fun little party on Saturday. I will be posting pictures of that sooner or later. I wish I would have sent out invitations sooner so more people could have come! But that’s OK…we had a great time anyway!
I made everybody wear pink. It was so awesome. And I had the most delicious cake from Madison Park Bakery. The frosting decorations were weird, but the flavor was outstanding. : ) Everyone was raving about it.
I think that’s about all the news I’ve got at the moment.
