Shopping Day

Filed under: General — admin on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 @ 8:59 pm

So far I have been enjoying about five days of vacation. : ) There are a lot of things I need to do during my time off, and I’m going to be gone for about ten days in the middle of it. Some of the things I can do on my trip, like reading, knitting, and drawing. I also really want to get some painting in during my break.

Today I went to Crossroads Trading Co. and got a few clothes to transition from Summer to Autumn. I have been reading lots of style blogs and streetstyle sites, and they have given me lots of inspiration for wearing less pieces in a more creative way. I got this great short olive dress that is super comfy and loose, so that it will be nice and breezy in summer, and look really cute over jeans and boots in fall. It drapes on me really well, and it’s got a nice asymmetrical hem. I also got a black wrap with sleeves that is just gorgeous…originally from H&M, and it makes me feel like an extremely elegant bat. XD I also got a grey tiered dress for the opera (also from H&M), and three tank tops in neutral colors to wear under t-shirts. Yay!! I’m also very excited that three H&M stores are opening in the Seattle area!

I’m also getting my hair cut right before we leave. We’re going to Rhode Island, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York City, and Washington DC. It’s going to be great!!

Meia is a Happier Potter than Yesterday

Filed under: General — admin on Sunday, August 17, 2008 @ 3:00 pm

Whew! So I went back to the ceramics studio to check on things today, and apparently, the teapot I was so upset about not getting fired had actually been fired, but it had been placed on the greenware shelf along with a lot of other fired things, because there was no room to put them anywhere else. But I had left a note for somebody to please fire it in one of the electric kilns, so somebody very nicely followed my note and refired my poor teapot. LOL My professor says it won’t hurt it. I just have to wait for it to cool off now before I can paint it. I need to get it done tonight so it can get fired soon.

And my missing jughead has been found. It was right there, right where I had searched high and low yesterday. I’m so confused. LOL. I glazed it, and we’re going to raku fire it Tuesday.

Now I have a short paper to write, and I have an art project to work on and finish by Wednesday. I think I can manage this!! XD

Trying to Upgrade my Blog

Ok, so I just uploaded the newest version of Wordpress, and fiddled with Spam Karma a little bit. I guess I already had the latest version of Spam Karma downloaded. Does anyone want to try to comment and see if it lets you? :)

Meia is Not a Happy Potter

Filed under: General — admin on @ 1:30 pm

It’s really getting down to the wire in my ceramics class, with deadlines for firings, so you have to have everything done by certain times. I have been doing great at getting things done in time, but it doesn’t help when people don’t load my things into the kiln and fire them so that they CAN be done in time.

My last David Bowie piece (Moss Garden teapot) was ready to be loaded on Thursday, but no one loaded it. I came in today to paint it, but it was still sitting there on the greenware shelf. Also, my jughead is no where to be found. I put it on the greenware shelf the same day I did my Moss Garden teapot. But it is no longer on the greenware shelf, and it is not with the other bisque fired things on their shelf. I can only surmise it must have asploded. :(

So I’m pretty bummed. I don’t care about getting the final project done for my grade, but I really care about these pieces because of what they mean to me. I haven’t felt so deeply about something I’ve made for a long time, and I want to be able to finish them!!!

Finals and Birthday Weekend

Filed under: Food, General — admin on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 @ 9:31 pm

Finals are upon me.

The last month of classes are always crazy-busy, but this quarter has been saner than most. I’m still working on art daily (including weekends) but it doesn’t feel like a drag. Getting up in the morning at six a.m. does, but the actual work itself is fulfilling and fun.

I love the final projects for my ceramics class. We’re to pick a person to have a meal with…famous or not, living or dead, fictional or real, and then design a set of dishes to be used. Of course, I chose David Bowie. I’m making a small Asian-ish set with pieces based on various songs of his. Primarily, “A New Career in a New Town” from Low, “Some Are,” which was a bonus track on my Sound and Vision version of Low, “Moss Garden” from Heroes, and “I’m Deranged” (specifically the line “and the rain sets in”) from Outside. I’m so excited. I can’t wait to see how they turn out. I hope they turn out. The act of creating something as a tribute to him, one of the most inspiring people to me, has made this project one of the most deeply satisfying, rewarding, and peaceful things I’ve ever done! : )

In my art class, our final project is in-class, and it’s basically a six hour drawing. I’m really taking my time with it and not hurrying and trying to make it my best. The model is female, so that helps. ;)

I’m really not sure what to do for my photography class. I’m meeting with the teacher tomorrow to talk to her about my “plans.” I have an idea to do a series based on one color. I would like to do pink, of course. I have lots of pink photos from my birthday party. LOL

Oh yeah, I’m 33 now! I just had a birthday weekend! Dan and I had dinner at Lampreia Friday night, and it was awesome. I had a couple of foodgasms. LOL. I discovered that pretty much anything with truffles in it (mushroom truffles, that is) does it for me every time. One of the appetizers was a duck egg poached? in black truffle puree and covered in melted provolone. I went to heaven right there. And the cheese course before dessert was served with a white truffle honey…OHMIGAWD I died again. Everything else was delicious as well. Dan commented that it was everything the Herbfarm was trying to be, and less expensive to boot. I have to agree. Of course, it’s in the middle of downtown instead of in the middle of the country, but that just made it more convenient to get to. ;)

I had a fun little party on Saturday. I will be posting pictures of that sooner or later. I wish I would have sent out invitations sooner so more people could have come! But that’s OK…we had a great time anyway! :D I made everybody wear pink. It was so awesome. And I had the most delicious cake from Madison Park Bakery. The frosting decorations were weird, but the flavor was outstanding. : ) Everyone was raving about it.

I think that’s about all the news I’ve got at the moment. ;)

Art Class Freedom Day!

Filed under: Artwork, General — admin on Thursday, August 7, 2008 @ 4:43 pm

Wednesday’s art class was great. We had to come up with an emotion and a formal quality (as in light, shadow, lines, value, etc.) and use those to make a portrait of the figure using whatever medium we wished, taking as long as we wished! :D He gave us a lot of freedom to do whatever we wished, and some really good arts came out of class that day. Here are mine. The word I chose was “pain.” (It was a hot day and I was really crabby. LOL) And I decided to focus on glaring light. I did the first four in a half hour.

The last two I did with various dilutions of ink. I stopped working with “pain” and “light” and was just kind of playing around basically. I had never used ink washes before, so it was great to experiment. :)

Cupcakes

Stacey and I got cupcakes at Cupcake Royale last weekend when she was here. Here are mine: The big one is lavender and the small one is just plain pink. They are as delicious as they look! Maybe even more so. ;)

Latest Arts

Filed under: Artwork — admin on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 @ 9:56 pm

These are the most recent stuffs I’ve drawn in my art class. We’re creating value using only line. Here are some two minute studies:

This one was about fifteen minutes.

I think this is probably the best drawing I’ve ever done. It was 1.5 hours.

Practice at home. ;)

And this one took about 3 hours.

A Couple More

These are quick sketches…about two minutes. The previous ones were around an hour.

I really like the thighs in this one:
